About us
Société Marseillaise des Amis de Chopin
The Société Marseillaise des Amis de Chopin — the Chopin Society of Marseille — is a member of the International Federation of Chopin Societies in Warsaw. Its purpose is to promote the work of Frédéric Chopin and, more broadly, classical music in the city of Marseille and its region.
The International Federation of Chopin Societies brings together more than 40 member societies worldwide. In France, the Chopin Societies of Paris and Nohant are highly active, running major festivals at the Orangerie of the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris and in George Sand's country at Nohant.
The society created its first season in 2022/2023, entirely dedicated to Nicholas Angelich. We paid tribute to him by welcoming his friends and students: Claire Désert, François-Frédéric Guy, Emmanuel Strosser, Frank Braley, Victor Demarquette, Ismaël Margain and Marie-Ange Nguci, who gave a magnificent closing concert.

In their words
It is always deeply moving for an artist to take part in the creation of a new festival or concert series, and I was very glad to contribute to the SMAC's project. This season brought together artists from different horizons — young and less young, to be discovered or already well known — all driven by a passion they were delighted to share with the warm, enthusiastic music lovers of Marseille.
